Our Journey

Sharon White speaking at education system change event

Sharon is an award-winning strategist with over 30 years' experience working in schools and focusing on children and young people (CYP) with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and those who were in Alternative Provision (AP) such as Pupil Referral Units (PRUs).

This culminated in a role as Headteacher of an AP, her school gaining a 'Good' Ofsted rating when it was previously 'Inadequate'. Her team worked with CYP who had been excluded from mainstream school and provided quality provision to enable most children to return to another mainstream or find their next positive destination.

Sharon has also worked on the other side of the child and young person's journey as Head of Inclusion for a London borough. During her tenure at Barking & Dagenham, her team was able to support schools and promote inclusive practices as well as commission quality provision for vulnerable and underserved communities. This resulted in the local authority having the lowest exclusion rates in London; the team's work being nominated for an LGC Award in 2022 and being showcased in the RSA/London Mayor's Inclusive Schools' toolkit as best practice across the country. Sharon has also been recognised for her work in local government by the International Forum for Inclusion Practitioners (IFIP) and received the IFIP's Global Inclusion award as well as inducted as an Honorary Distinguished Fellow in 2023.

Before founding Educating Horizons, Sharon was Head of Communities & Young People in the London Mayor's Violence Reduction Unit in City Hall where she led a team responsible for £22m of investment programmes for young people, local authorities and third sector partners.

In October 2024, Sharon won the Foundervine's Future Award in the Catalyst for Change category. The awards recognises innovation and excellence in business.

In July 2025, Sharon won a Multicultural Excellence Award in the Unsung Hero category. The ceremony was held at the prestigious House of Lords.

In June 2026, Educating Horizons won the Systems Innovator Award at the inaugural Do It Now Now Awards — held on 25th June 2026 at the Horniman Museum, London — recognising Educating Horizons as founder of the SaaS platform, Collab+®.

Sharon has worked with MPs on Parliamentary events and is a contributing member of the Inclusion & Nurture in Education All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG), bringing evidence-based insights to policy conversations.

Sharon also volunteers as a Safeguarding Governor for Northstar New School and sits on the governing body of Beam County Primary. She is also co-Director at Barking Sports4Change CIC (BS4C) and sits on the Board of Trustees at Partnership Learning Trust.

Her commitment to giving back and remaining connected to the communities she serves is at the heart of everything Educating Horizons does.

What People Say

"Absolute respect to Sharon White. Sharon White is totally the real deal. Back in 2020, as Inclusion Lead in Barking and Dagenham, Sharon trusted me and empowered me to do the work that has allowed me to do what I am doing now, both within my LA and beyond it. And this work has shaped the future of inclusion in my borough and has influenced practice more widely. Earlier this year, Sharon was the person that said to me, 'Get your ideas out there. People need to hear it.' Sharon believed in me and convinced me to believe in myself and to shout loud about what I believe to be right. The bottom line is, if you want to work with someone who really cares about children and young people's wellbeing and their futures then look to Sharon White and Educating Horizons."

The work conducted around the YARM and the development of the impact report and presentation was really insightful. Your expertise significantly contributed to the success of the event and the feedback has been extremely positive and has sparked meaningful discussions. Your dedication to addressing such a critical issue in our community is truly commendable, and we are honoured to have had the opportunity to work with you and have you present at the event. Your experience will aid us in our ongoing efforts to combat knife crime and keep children and young people safe. Once again, thank you for your valuable contribution."

Stay up to date with the latest news and achievements from Educating Horizons

Educating Horizons proudly organised Hopewell School's inaugural symposium on 26 June at the CEME Campus in Rainham, bringing together educators and leaders from across the region for a day of collaboration and shared learning.

Belonging Together! What a brilliant symposium organised by Sharon White DFIFIP, bringing together staff, leaders, and innovators from across education to discuss how we can transform schools, our practices, and the systems around us to become more inclusive and instil a true sense of belonging in our children. It was a day full of thought provoking conversations, meeting headteachers from across East London, and sharing how our robot helps pupils feel that they are continuously part of something greater: a system that cares.
